Harrison moved to a little town and started shopkeeping as an alternative career .His wife was left in the village to take care of their two sons. Later in 1991,the unexpected happened. Harrison fell ill. Attempts by doctor to save his life proved futile .He succumbed to Hepatocellular Carcinoma. His was laid to rest at the banana plantation behind their house.
The widowed Jane was disappointed by the dramatic turn of events. She took her two sons and went back to her maternal home far away from Mathioya. Later,she left her sons at the care of their grandmother. As the sole provider,she dealt with cheap labour .Despite the challenges she encountered,she ensured that her sons attended school.
